About Us

The Emporia State University Flute Choir is open to any ESU student that plays the flute. This group is regularly around ten to fifteen members, rehearsing weekly for ninety minutes.

Performing a variety of music, interested students have the opportunity to play school-owned piccolos, alto flutes, bass flutes, and the only contrabass flute in the state of Kansas. The Flute Choir was selected by audition recording to perform at the Kansas Music Educators conventions in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2014, 2016, 2021, and 2024, and at the National Flute Association convention in Kansas City in 2008, Chicago in 2022, and San Antonio in 2024. Additional performances each semester include tours to area schools or nursing homes. Dr. Kate Bergman, Director.

Membership Benefits

Have fun playing the flute, while meeting other students that play flute. Get the opportunity to play all members of the flute family, including piccolo and low flutes (alto flutes, bass flutes, and contrabass flute). Help spread Hornet cheer to area schools, students, nursing homes and the community through performing flute music! Depending on RSO allocations, we try to bring flute guest artists to campus, or travel to go hear flute performances. Some travel often includes the Kansas Flute Society fall and spring festivals, or performances by the Kansas City Symphony, Topeka Symphony, Wichita Symphony,  etc. We also help host low flute tryouts during Future Music Student Day and music scholarship audition days.
