About Us
The Organization of Biology Graduate Students (more commonly known as O.B.G.S.) provides a cooperative learning and social environment where graduate students within the School of Science and Mathematics can share and learn from each other's experiences and build a sense of community. Additionally, the organization acts as a collective voice for members, provides opportunities for graduate students to volunteer and give back to the learning community, and helps fund graduate student involvement in scientific conferences. Club meetings are held monthly, and other social events take place throughout each semester. All graduate students within the School of Science and Mathematics are welcome!
Membership Benefits
Members of the Organization of Biology Graduate Students can benefit from a sense of community and by being surrounded by a support system of friends and colleagues. Graduate school can be a stressful time, but it is much easier when you are not going through it alone. Monthly meetings, holiday and graduation celebrations, and various other get-togethers all help keep members social. The organization also helps fund members wishing to present research at conferences and attend scientific talks, provides opportunities to volunteer and give back to the learning community, and acts as a collective voice for graduate students in the School of Science and Mathematics.
Projects & Initiatives
Each semester, our organization has a plant sale to raise funds for club apparel, future activities, and conferences. Additionally, we host social events throughout the school year, including things like board game nights, bonfires, and holiday and graduation celebrations. We also biennially organize a panel of graduate students and faculty to help teach undergraduates about the graduate school application process and to answer any questions they might have about it.
Upcoming Events:
March Monthly Meeting (Science Hall, Room 045, date to be announced)
