About Us
The Quivira Creative Writing Club is one of ESU's oldest clubs, with a long tradition in helping student writers gain skills, get real-world experience, and publish their work. We sponsor literary readings and activities, in addition to providing students a venue for sharing and strengthening their writing, and for more than 75 years we have published the annual Quivira Student Literary Journal, which is the oldest student publication west of the Mississippi. The club and journal are both open to all current ESU students, regardless of year or major.
Quivira Student Literary Journal is produced annually with students' fee money allocated by Associated Student Government each year (approximately $0.10 per student), and so every issue is available for FREE to any ESU student or alumni. Current or past issue can be picked up from the Donald Reichardt Center for Publishing and Literary Arts, or from the shelves in the HSS lounge (4th floor Plumb Hall on the East end). Email quivira@emporia.edu for assistance if you can't find the issue you're looking for. If you are a distance student, we will mail you your free copy, we just charge shipping.
If you love to write, we'd love to have you. If you're interested in publishing and want to gain experience working on a literary journal, we'd love to have you join our journal team as well.

Projects & Initiatives
One central project for the club is to produce the annual Quivira Student Literary Journal, which is the longest-running student publication west of the Mississippi! Submissions for Quivira Student Literary Journal are open from August - March every year. Visit our submissions page on our Submittable. Any currently enrolled ESU student can submit to the journal, regardless of year or major. They do not have to be a member of the Quivira Creative Writing Club.
The club will meet on Wednesdays at 4:00 pm in the Donald Reichardt Center for Publishing & Literary Arts (Plumb Hall 407) and everyone is welcome!
