Quivira is the Emporia State University Creative Writing club and one of ESU's oldest clubs, and open to all ESU students of any major. In addition to sharing and strengthening our writing, we sponsor literary readings and activities open to students and the public, and publish Quivira the student literary journal.
Quivira is the longest-running student journal west of the Mississippi. Quivira is produced annually (in the Spring semester) with students' fee money allocated by Associated Student Government each year (approximately $0.10 per student), therefore each ESU student and alumni is allowed one free copy of each issue. Any current or past issue can be picked up from the Donald Reichardt Center for Publishing and Literary Arts (email quivira@emporia.edu for assistance). If you are a distance student, we will mail you your free copy, we just charge shipping.
If you love to write, we'd love to have you. If you're interested in publishing and want to gain experience working on a literary journal, we'd love to have you join our journal team as well.
Submissions for Quivira are open from October - December (every year). Visit our submissions page on our website. Anyone can submit to our journal as long as they are enrolled as a current ESU student. They do not have to be a member of our club.
Our group meets on Mondays at 5:30 PM in Plumb Hall, 406.
