The Student Chapter of the American Library Association (SCALA) at Emporia State University is dedicated to the educational, professional, service, and social enrichment of the students of the School of Library and Information Management program.

Membership Benefits

Any student in the School of Library and Information Management is automatically a member of SCALA! Membership is free of charge and open all students of Emporia State University interested in librarianship and archives.

To foster community among SLIM students, SCALA is proud to host a monthly book club! Check out our social media pages for more information, reach out to one of our officers! All are welcome to join us via Zoom for a casual and friendly meetup to discuss a variety of different books and media.


This fall, SCALA hosted ALA President-Elect Maria McCauley for a Q&A in which she shared her professional journey, as well as career advice for aspiring librarians! SCALA is dedicated to furthering the professional development of SLIM students and creating opportunities for students to connect and engage in valuable learning experiences outside the classroom setting.
